Shortly before 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, news came down the wire stating that New York Knicks forward Troy Williams will be ruled out for the remainder of this season due to a fractured jaw which he sustained in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 115-109 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

Williams' injury came late in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game when he collided with Pistons guard Ish Smith.

Williams, now 22 years of age, joined the Knicks in late February. He earned a second 10-day contract before New York decided to sign him through the end of this and could return next year.

In his 17 appearances with the Knicks this season, Williams racked up averages of 7.5 points on 49.0 percent shooting from the field (33.3 percent from beyond the arc), 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 17.1 minutes per game.

Via ESPN's Ian Begley:

“Troy Williams is signed to a partially-guaranteed deal for next season. Based on how he played for the Knicks during his 17-game Knicks stint, you can expect him to be back next season. Williams is it for the season due a fractured jaw.”

The Knicks have dealt with several injuries this season, including Kristaps Porzingis' knee and Ron Baker's shoulder. Furthermore, Joakim Noah has been away from the team due to a buyout disagreement.

With Williams ruled out for the remainder of this season, the Knicks will likely give Damyean Dotson and Luke Kornet a bit more playing time. Along with Isaiah Hicks, both Dotson and Kornet will be playing with Westchester in the G-League Playoffs on Monday night, according to Begley.

The Knicks — now the fourth-ranked team in the Atlantic Division standings with a 27-50 overall record — will be back in action on Tuesday night, as they're scheduled to face the Orlando Magic inside Madison Square Garden at 7:30 p.m. EST.
