Los Angeles Lakers center Tyson Chandler believes that one of his former teams — the New York Knicks — can “land a big-time free agent to pair with [Kristaps] Porzingis,” per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

In fact, Chandler pointed out Porzingis and Knicks head coach David Fizdale — who New York hired in the offseason — as the Knicks' primary selling points.

“They have a chance to land a big-time free agent to pair with Porzingis and after that I think it can happen real quick,” Chandler said. “I think you’ve got a good coach with a good personality and demeanor (David Fizdale), and then you’ve got a superstar player in Porzingis who I think a lot of players would love to play with.”

Chandler believes that before Porzingis went down, the 23-year-old was having an MVP-type season. He added that the Knicks really need to go hard for a free agent because it just might change the course of the franchise.

“Before he got hurt, especially at the beginning of the season, he was having an MVP-type season. And again I think you’ve really got to go after one of those free agents and if you land it, again, it could just be a matter of time.”

Porzingis is still out and New York hasn't released a timeline for his return. It's safe to assume that they're not rushing things with him.

The Knicks currently sport a 9-23 record and they won't be making waves this season as expected. Nonetheless, Knicks fans have to believe that the organization is brewing up greater things for them.
