Amid the controversies involving the New York Knicks and owner James Dolan, veteran center Tyson Chandler shared a story about the owner's incredible gesture for him back in 2014.

Dolan has been involved in spats with Knicks fans, former players, and most recently, legendary filmmaker and diehard Knicks fan Spike Lee. These controversies have not only tarnished the Knicks' legacy as a brand but Dolan's persona as well.

Despite all this, Chandler has nothing but respect for Dolan. Chandler recounted the time when the owner of the Knicks offered his personal plane so that the big man could visit his mother — who had stage four cancer — in the West. Per Ian Begley of SNY:

“Basically, after every game, I would leave, go to the West Coast in LA, be with her in the hospital, sleep there, sleep with her. And fly back to New York and then play,” said Chandler, the 2013 Defensive Player of the Year. “…. I did that the whole end of the season.”

Chandler, who now plays for the Houston Rockets, is aware of the controversies involving Dolan and the Knicks.

For him, the mud slung at Dolan doesn't affect how he sees the Knicks' owner. For Chandler, Dolan is simply a great guy.

“People have their opinions. They have their opinions about me, it just depends on when you catch me,” Chandler said with a smile. “For me, I hear everything about him, but that has nothing to do with me. If somebody comes to me and asks me, I say he's a great dude. He looked out for me in a time of need. So that's the kind of stuff people don't hear about. They just hear the other s–t.”

Time will only tell what will happen to the Knicks organization as well as Dolan.

Though most people — even Knicks fans themselves — have grown to spite the team, there are still several people who know that there's a lot of good left in that legendary organization.
