The New York Knicks' Willy Hernangomez is hopeful that he will see a change in scenery before the NBA trade deadline arrives on February 8. He has been frustrated mainly because of his diminishing role with the Knicks.

“I think there will be a change: I hope for the better, it can't get worse than this,” Hernangomez said, as per MARCA, a Spanish editorial. “I would like to stay here, but I don't close doors to anything. What I want is to play. There's a few weeks left till the trade deadline and I want to play.”

“I've enjoyed the experience of playing in New York. I love the city, the fans, my teammates . . . but I'm 23, I'm ambitious, I'm hungry and want to play. I don't care where. I'm ready for whatever and working to change this situation and play.”

Hernangomez averaged 8.2 points and seven rebounds in 72 games in his rookie season. But now in his sophomore year, he is only averaging 4.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest and has played only 20 games for the Knicks so far.

Partly to blame for the Spanish center's diminished role in the team is the logjam of centers. The team has four players occupying the position in Enes Kanter, Kyle O'Quinn, Joakim Noah, and Hernangomez.

Kanter is well-established as the starter, while O'Quinn as the primary backup. Noah and Hernangomez are forced to be third and fourth options for the team. Still, he is not expected to have a shortage of suitors, being a young and all.
