For New York Knicks second-year center Willy Hernangomez, his name continues to pop up in trade package discussions as the deadline approaches next Thursday.

Although he loves being a member of the Knicks, he said he really wants to be able to play more than he is right now. According to an article written Saturday evening by Al Iannazzone of Newsweek, Hernangomez is looking forward to what his future has in store following the trade talks.

“I’m kind of excited to see what happens,” Hernangomez said. “I’ve been really patient. I’m working hard every day. I try to be ready for when my opportunity comes. But I’m ready for anything that comes. I just want to play. I love New York, I love my teammates. But I need to play. I love basketball so much. I need to play.”

Despite limited playing time, he still would like to stay in New York and grow alongside Knicks rising star power forward Kristaps Porzingis this season.

However, he understands that the NBA is a business and personally feels he should be more involved. If that means playing for another team, Hernangomez is ready for that possibility to come.

“After Thursday, something good is going to happen,” Hernangomez said. “I really want to be here with KP, with my teammates. I love New York. I love New York fans. But I really have to play. I’m ready for anything.”

In just 9.2 minutes of action per game in 25 contests this year, the 23-year-old center out of Spain is averaging 4.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
