Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony said after the team's season-ending loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday he would like to remain in Rip City.

But new New York Knicks president Leon Rose is envisioning Melo's return to Madison Square Garden.

Marc Berman of the New York Post reported Rose has been thinking about a reunion with Anthony ever since he assumed the position as team president:

According to sources, Anthony has been on Rose’s radar ever since he took over the presidency in early March. Rose is Anthony’s former top client at Creative Artists Agency. Other connections include Anthony lobbying for Thibodeau to become Knicks coach in 2014 and the newly hired assistant Woodson getting Anthony to play his best two-way ball in the 2012-13 season.

Carmelo Anthony established himself as a staple in New York after coming over from the Denver Nuggets in 2011.

The 10-time All-Star led the Knicks to multiple playoff appearances and also won the scoring title during the 2012-13 season, averaging 28.7 points per game.

It is certainly possible the Knicks are looking for ways to bring Anthony back into the fold, even if he does not make sense for the current roster construction.

New York is in need of a 3-and-D wing player, and Anthony hardly fits the mold. While Anthony had a better 3-point shooting percentage this past season, he is still primarily a mid-range scorer.

However, Rose might see Anthony as a potential veteran leader for a Knicks squad in need of direction. Perhaps Melo would also mesh well with Tom Thibodeau.

In any case, New York will seemingly have to wait for Portland to decide whether to bring Carmelo Anthony back for another season. He clearly wants to be with the Blazers, but perhaps a surprise will be in store.
