With a deep rotation of guards on the New York Knicks roster at the moment, it wouldn't be surprising if the team tried to trade at least one of them this upcoming offseason. In fact, according to a tweet today from Knicks beat reporter Ian Begley of ESPN, a name that has come up as potential trade bait is rookie shooting guard Damyean Dotson.

Ever since the Knicks' acquisition of former Denver Nuggets point guard Emmanuel Mudiay, the team has used the 2017 NBA Draft's No. 8 overall pick Frank Ntilikina more as a shooting guard.

“With Frank Ntilikina being used more often at shooting guard lately by the Knicks, several teams have internally discussed rookie shooting guard Damyean Dotson as an offseason trade target, per sources,” Begley said on Saturday evening.

Dotson has not seen much action consistently this season in Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek's player rotation, so it wouldn't come as a big surprise if his name is mentioned in trade talks this offseason.

In 30 games this season for the New York Knicks, including two starts, Dotson is averaging just 2.9 points on 43.2 percent shooting from the field, 1.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists in only 8.5 minutes of action per contest. With the Westchester Knicks, New York's G League affiliate, Dotson has played in 11 games and is averaging 17.9 points on 48.4 percent shooting, 6.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

This has been quite a rough season for the Knicks, especially with the season-ending ACL injury suffered by All-Star power forward Kristaps Porzingis last month. But it'll be very interesting to see what New York does with their guard situation.
