Philadelphia 76ers general manager Elton Brand has reportedly been targeted by Leon Rose as a candidate for the New York Knicks' general manager job, per Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News.

New York's current GM is Scott Perry, but he is expected to leave since both he and the Knicks have contract opt-outs after this season ends.

According to a league source, Elton Brand has been targeted by Rose as a candidate for Knicks GM. Brand, 41, is currently the Sixers GM and is under contract next season, complicating any designs of bringing him to New York. The source said Rose wanted to see if Brand was dismissed after the playoffs.

Before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to COVID-19, the Knicks had the fourth-worst record in the Eastern Conference standings. New York won just 21 games before Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus.

Brand has been the GM of the Sixers since 2018, making headlines for trading for Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris last season. The former NBA All-Star traded Butler last summer to the Miami Heat in a sign-and-trade deal which brought Philly Josh Richardson. He also signed Al Horford in the 2019 free agency.

The Knicks haven't had a winning record or made the playoffs since the 2012-13 season. The franchise is in dire need of a GM which can construct a winning roster.

It's unknown what Rose plans to do with interim head coach Mike Miller. The Knicks could see a lot of changes happen whenever the 2019-20 season ends now that Rose is running the show as president.
