Los Angeles Lakers' Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is being eyed by the New York Knicks, according to the New York Daily News.

The Knicks are desperately looking for some speed and athleticism on the wing to keep up with the changing NBA. The likes of Jarrett Jack and Courtney Lee are not going to bring them to new heights.

Caldwell-Pope, on the other hand, has shown some promise with the Detroit Pistons before going to the Lakers. But his Lakers stint isn't exactly panning out as he expected.

The Lakers' shooting guard will be available in the summer as he becomes a restricted free-agent. And not everybody is looking to get Caldwell-Pope as well. He is carrying some baggage with him, as he has had a 25-day jail sentence for violating his probation.

Still, the baggage doesn't change the fact that Caldwell-Pope has the potential to be a good perimeter defender and overall wing player. He is also young at 24 years old. He is in a similar age bracket with Knicks' rising star Kristaps Porzingis and long-term project Frank Ntilikina.

If the Knicks can get him on a good deal, the team can finally have a solid core it can be happy about. Enes Kanter and Tim Hardaway Jr. are also doing pretty well. Kanter is averaging 13.5 points and 10 rebounds per game while Tim Hardaway Jr. is averaging 18.4 points and 4.2 rebounds.

Who knows? Maybe Caldwell-Pope is the piece the Knicks have been waiting for to complete their team that is desperate in seeing the playoffs once again.

Caldwell-Pope is averaging 13.7 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Lakers this season.
