Former Golden State Warriors head coach and TNT analyst Mark Jackson interviewed for the New York Knicks head coach job on Wednesday, the same day as veteran Mike Woodson. But even though they interviewed separately, there's a scenario in which both men could work together, with Jackson at the helm and Woodson as the assistant, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post.

Woodson has extensive experience as an assistant coach, doing so from 1996-2004, and then again in short stints with the New York Knicks and most recently under Doc Rivers with the L.A. Clippers. The 60-year-old also worked under now-president Steve Mills.

If Jackson is hired, the Knicks would hope to surround him with a more cohesive coaching staff, given his constant run-ins with his assistants during his time at Golden State.

The popular color-commentary voice of ESPN has three years of coaching experience under his belt but has been without a clipboard for the past four years, which has led to more time to think things through, rather than rust.

“He’s not going to make the same mistakes,’’ one NBA source said. “He’ll have assistants he trusts. He wants another chance to coach again.’’

The Knicks are expected to be very thorough and interview all of their candidates before making a decision. Mills said he was granted a patient approach from ownership and he plans to make his due diligence with the next hire, hopeful that it will lead to the resurgence of the franchise.
