As the new year approaches, so is the trade deadline in February. That said, some NBA teams are already starting to plan ahead on what moves they’ll make in order to place their franchise in the best possible position to contend for a title or have a better chance in landing one of the top picks of the draft.

One of them are the New York Knicks, who are reportedly considering to clear their logjam at the center position, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. They are also apparently keen on trading Kyle O’Quinn to be able to give Willy Hernangomez more playing time.

“According to sources, the Knicks are considering alleviating their center logjam to open up playing time for Willy Hernangomez, 23, who is growing more antsy after having not played in 10 of the previous 11 games heading into Thursday’s contest with the Spurs. Of course, if the Knicks are in the thick of the race, they will need a legitimate return.”

After his solid season last year, the 23-year-old Spanish international is only averaging 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in only 10.6 minutes per game. He has made it known last month that he thinks he deserves more than just receiving court action during garbage time, while the Knicks have also been vocal about seeing him as part of their future.

The Knicks' situation is definitely something worth keeping an eye on and it will be very interesting to see how things will pan out for them. Should they indeed trade one of their centers, Hernangomez will have a huge chance to prove his worth and let his team's front office know that they made the right decision in keeping him.
