As the New York Knicks disaster of a 2019-20 campaign continues, another rumor could potentially drive Knicks fans into hysteria. According to Prime Time Sports Talk, the Knicks are reportedly considering trading center Mitchell Robinson in the hopes of acquiring a star point guard.

This is definitely a puzzling move as Robinson has showcased a lot of promise as a rim protector and a defensive anchor.

Reports earlier this season suggested that the Knicks deemed Robinson as an untouchable asset along with No. 3 overall pick R.J. Barrett. Now, it seems like they are open to parting ways with the 21-year old big man should they land their point guard of the future.

New York has long been looking to find the right lead general to man the point for them. The Knicks previously expressed interest in acquiring D'Angelo Russell from the Golden State Warriors at this year's trade deadline. However, they were beaten out by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

With the likes of Dennis Smith Jr. and Frank Ntilikina not living up to their standards, the Knicks point guard search is still in full swing. With that desire in mind, it might come at the cost of letting go of an intriguing prospect like Robinson.

The 7-foot center surprised a lot of people last season with impressive performances especially on the defensive end. The 21-year-old's great rookie campaign earned him a spot on the 2019 All-Rookie Second team.

This year, many assumed that the Knicks would just let Robinson run loose. However, the second-rounder has only started in seven games and is playing just 23 minutes a night. On the season, Robinson is averaging 9.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks while 73.4 percent from the field.
