Expect the New York Knicks to make a push for Toronto Raptors All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard.

This was what a league source told Newsday's Steve Popper on June 6.

According to a source with knowledge of their plans, the team is expected to push hard for Leonard when free agency begins on June 30 at 6 p.m.

While (Golden State Warriors forward Kevin) Durant's flirtation with New York has been immersed in talks of branding deals and production opportunities, there is contingent in the Knicks front office that is enamored not just with Leonard's two-way talents on the court, but with the fact that he would bring little drama with him.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are two of the most prominent names in the Knicks' free-agency hunt. Popper describes Durant as a “soap opera” and Irving as “a viral meme brought to life.” On the other hand, he dubs Leonard as “a National Geographic documentary without a word spoken.” That's pretty accurate.

Popper asked Kawhi Leonard last February what he thought about the Knicks' rabid fan support despite having the worst record in the league.

“Yeah, they still come out and support the team even with a losing record,” Leonard told Newsday back then. “That's what you want I guess from an organization if you're playing for them.”

Popper also identifies the Los Angeles Clippers as another favorite in the Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes. Leonard is a native of Southern California.

If the Knicks are indeed in the mix, they have stiff competition. The Toronto Raptors, Leonard's current team, are intent on keeping him. Local bars and restaurants have intensified their “KaWine and Dine” campaign.

Will Kawhi Leonard become a New York Knick? It should be interesting to find out.
