The New York Knicks have had their eyes on free agent forward Marcus Morris for quite a while now, as the former Boston Celtics spark plug is now re-thinking a previous contract agreement with the San Antonio Spurs.

Per Ian Begley of SNY:

The Knicks have long been enamored by Morris, according to a source, and would have high interest if the forward reneged on his agreement with San Antonio. ESPN reported that Morris is contemplating backing out of his Spurs agreement and would have interest in New York. Yahoo reported that the Knicks have made an offer of $15 million over one season to Morris. That's more valuable than the two-year, $20 million agreement Morris had with San Antonio.

Due to some health issues regarding Reggie Bullock, the Knicks could re-work his deal to a lesser amount, freeing up enough cap space to make Morris a sizable balloon offer of $15 million, giving him 75% of what he would make in two years in San Antonio, plus the ability to become a free agent again in 2020 and try his luck with a long-term deal.

It is rare to see a player take back a prior commitment to a team after the two parties have come to an agreement (hello DeAndre Jordan), barring some serious circumstances.

Most recently, Alec Burks backed out of a previous deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, who will undergo a rebuild soon, choosing instead to sign with the Golden State Warriors.

However, this Morris impasse is one that only has the lucrative aspect in mind, as he stands to profit more by joining the Knicks on a one-year, $15 million deal.
