The New York Knicks are reportedly enamored with Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell despite his questionable potential fit with RJ Barrett, per Adam Zagoria of Forbes.

The Knicks just hired Johnnie Bryant, who was very close with Mitchell as the Jazz's head of player development.

“They want him badly but may be a possible conflict with R.J. [Barrett],” a source with knowledge of the Knicks thinking said of Mitchell. “There’s a debate in the front office if they can play together.”

The Jazz are expected to sign Donovan Mitchell to a lucrative rookie-scale extension this offseason. Under no circumstance is Utah going to trade its franchise player, especially to a Knicks team that doesn't have many assets outside of RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson.

The Knicks are desperate for talent, so of course they are going to want Mitchell “badly.” The All-Star has guided the Jazz to the playoffs each year in the NBA, and he's only going to get better moving forward.

While Mitchell would flourish in a market such as New York, he loves playing for the Jazz and the Salt Lake City franchise isn't going to trade the scoring guard.

The Knicks haven't had a winning record or made the playoffs since the 2012-13 season. New York fans are hoping Leon Rose and Tom Thibodeau can save the organization. Rose is the new president of basketball operations, while Thibodeau — a former Coach of the Year with the Chicago Bulls — was recently hired as their coach.
