The New York Knicks are clearly looking to make big moves in the 2022 NBA free agency. They traded away numerous draft picks and clear up cap space during the NBA Draft to possibly make big moves to sign a star veteran or two. It is a risky move, as there is no guarantee the front office will acquire any big-name free agents. However, rumors are New York is making a strong push for Jalen Brunson, which isn't ideal for the Dallas Mavericks.

According to Marc Stein, “the Knicks are increasingly expected to assemble a four-year offer to Brunson valued in the $100 million range.” Due to the organization dumping Kemba Walker's contract, “coupled with a growing belief that it can shed further salary to expand its offer when the marketplace officially opens next Thursday,” New York will be in the running to sign Jalen Brunson in the offseason.

Of course, the Mavs will have the opportunity to offer their breakout star a much larger deal than the Knicks. However, “a growing belief among some close to the situation that Brunson wants this move to Madison Square Garden,” per Marc Stein. With the Knicks, Jalen Brunson will be the top guard on the roster and head back to New York where he has “strong family ties.”

Adding Brunson to the Knicks' lineup would make up for the gutsy moves made in the NBA Draft. New York would finally have the star point guard the franchise has been searching for for years. As for the Mavs, Dallas will be left in a dismal position of losing a star sidekick to Luka Doncic and not having the salary cap space to continue building around their superstar.

Look for Jalen Brunson to continue being a hot name in NBA free agency. Although it sounds like the Knicks are going to end up signing him right now, another organization could step in and make a strong push for the rising star.
