As reported about a week ago by New York Daily News, the New York Knicks have interest in calling up 25-year old guard Trey Burke from their G League affiliate team, the Westchester Knicks. Now a week later, that interest stands still, but the Knicks still need to create a roster spot for Burke.

The New York Daily News provides an update on the story. They had previously made clear that the Knicks would prefer opening the roster spot they need via trade to avoid waiving any player, as the latter stretches the player's salary and uses cap space. But now, the trade market appears to be too dry that the Knicks could end up waiving a player. All signs point to that player being Ramon Sessions. If the Knicks cannot trade him soon, Sessions will probably get cut anyway.

Before yesterday's double-overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls, the 31-year old veteran point guard spoke about the trade rumors:

“I’ve been around a little bit. I’ve been traded. I’ve been talked about being traded. So it’s one of those things where you do your work, you can’t control that kind of stuff.”

Sessions went from starting point guard during the first games of this season to the last man in the Knicks' rotation now. The team has found more value in fellow veteran point guard Jarrett Jack and still focuses on developing rookie Frank Ntilikina, leaving Sessions with little-to-no playing time. The veteran said he has heard nothing from team president Steve Mills or GM Scott Perry regarding trades or cuts:

“I see those guys every day. Nothing came to me in-house.”

You can say Sessions' end with the Knicks is a matter of when, not if, as the Knicks have enough interest in Burke. It is highly unlikely that the Knicks will waive somebody else to acquire the G League star, as having Burke and Sessions on the roster at the same time makes no sense because both play the same position.
