They say even bad publicity is good publicity. Unfortunately, that hardly rings true for the New York Knicks, who right now are mired in a rut of epic proportions entering the 2017-18 NBA season.

Not even the delusional optimism of newly-signed forward Michael Beasley was enough to spur the slightest bit of support from ESPN analyst and notorious Knicks fan Stephen A. Smith. Smith recently ridiculed the NBA journeyman after saying that New York now had four players who could average 25 points per game.

During his rant, Smith even suggested that Beasley was ‘on the weed' when he said it. Beasley has since responded twith a short, albeit clear message on Instagram:

It is clear in the video that the nine-year veteran was not too happy with Smith's comments — and rightfully so. While Beasley's statement may have been a bit outlandish, it was nothing short of preseason optimism that essentially every player has going into each year.

A former No. 2 overall pick, Beasley has established himself as a solid scoring big man. However, inconsistent play and off-court issues have resulted in him landing on his sixth team in 10 seasons. For those that do not know, Beasley has a history of marijuana-related incidents, which has seemingly made it difficult for him to stay in one place.

Smith's comments are reminiscent of the ones he made about Lamar Odom's struggle with crack cocaine. However, this situation does not seem as apologetic as Odom's case and New York may have yet another distraction unfold this season.
