By now we know Kobe Bryant has Russell Westbrook's back.

The legendary Laker sees more of himself in Westbrook than any other current NBA player and has come to admire the Thunder point guard quite a bit.

So when Bryant heard about the “assist hunting” claim surrounding Westbrook's near triple-double performance vs. the Suns last night, he had to speak up.

At this point there certainly is a level of nit-picking with Westbrook and these triple-doubles. No one can rightly claim the triple-doubles hurt the Thunder since they win at such a high rate when Russ records them, but they don't always feel genuine and there's plenty of tape to back that sentiment.

Kobe's point is simply that the triple-doubles are so impressive, Westbrook should not be receiving any questions like this that question his style of play. Kobe can have his opinion and people can also believe Westbrook is out there hunting for these triple-doubles. No one is wrong, but after last night's Suns game, it's hard to make the case that Westbrook isn't chasing numbers at least somewhat.
