PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) creators KRAFTON donated about $202,000 towards COVID-19 relief in India. The South Korean gaming company donated Rs. 15,000,000 to the country, which currently experiences one of the worst conditions during the global pandemic.

PUBG creators KRAFTON donates $202,000 for India's COVID-19 relief program

KRAFTON announced in a blog post earlier today that the company donated towards the COVID-19 relief program of India. In a statement, the PUBG corporation announced:

“Standing in solidarity with India during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, KRAFTON, the South Korean collective of independent game development teams, today announced a contribution of Rs 1.5 Crores towards PM CARES Fund via its Indian subsidiary.”

The PUBG creators' donation went to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund, aptly named PM Cares. Apart from relief to vulnerable sectors of society, the PM Cares fund also subsidizes vaccine rollout costs. KRAFTON CEO Changhan Kim says about their commitments:

“We remain committed to supporting the efforts of the government in battling this unprecedented crisis. We hope our contribution to the PM CARES Fund will help the aid efforts currently operational on the ground.”

India has experienced one of the worst cases of COVID-19 around the world, CNN reports. With new cases hitting more than 300,000 each day, India has been reporting more than 3,000 deaths daily. Much worse, experts say that India has been underreporting these figures.

Interestingly, the Indian government banned PUBG Mobile last year because it violated some of the country's laws. KRAFTON didn't develop or publish the mobile version of PUBG themselves but instead was made by Tencent. KRAFTON says that they are working towards getting PUBG Mobile back to the Indian market. As of December 2020, PUBG Mobile has over 1 billion registered users, bringing in $4.3 billion in revenues all by itself.
