Kristaps Porzingis was not a popular draft pick among Knicks fans, as many doubted what this player, one not too many were familiar with, could bring to the team. However, he has made his way into the hearts of basketball fans in the city of New York, as his consistent performance have given fans hope and made them regret their draft day reaction.

With the 2016-17 season around a quarter of the way done, major improvements and developments have been evident in this young player's game. With his range expanding and offensive mindset developing, he is averaging 19.9 points a game on 40% shooting from the field compared to his 14.3 point average and 33.3% shooting from last season.

His performance has not only impacted the spectators of the NBA, but also has earned him a well-deserved title of Latvian Player of the Year back in his home country. His journey through the Spanish League, playing with Sevilla, has caught the eyes of coaches and players in the league. According to Scott Davis of Business Insider, former NBA Assistant Coach Scott Roth stated:

“Kris is a tough kid with passion, a worker, and he’s not going to back down from anyone. He’s going to get knocked around a bit the first couple of years, but by the time he’s 23, you could have a monster on your hands.”

His potential to become a great, versatile player earned him this prestigious award, and hopefully many more to come, as he continues to dazzle sports fans across the world.
