With the free agency period underway, it has been quite active during the first couple of hours around the league.

Although the Los Angeles Lakers are not expected to be big spenders this summer, the team has reached out to a few notable players on the open market, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

This is quite an interesting list of players that the Lakers have made contact with on the first night of the free agency period, for several reasons. Andre Iguodala has been one of the most sought out players with more than a handful of teams expected to inquire about his services.

He has a preference to remain with the Golden State Warriors, especially after winning a second NBA title in the last three seasons. However, if he desires a significant payday, the Warriors may not be willing or able to offer him that type of deal. This could allow Los Angeles to enter the picture, as they currently possess around $18 million in salary cap space this offseason.

Meanwhile, their interest in Rajon Rondo could be a fascinating play as the team already has possesses a pass-first point guard after taking Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft last week. Rondo had been waived by the Chicago Bulls earlier this week, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The potential pairing of Ball and Rondo could be conflicting, given that each would look to assume the primary ball handling duties. There is also the possibility that this may hinder the former UCLA product's development.

Lastly, the interest in Ben McLemore makes the most sense out of the group given that the team is looking to acquire shooting in free agency, and he could provide that on a short-term deal. McLemore is coming off a season where he hit a career-high 38.2 percent from beyond the arc.

All in all, this gives off the notion that the Lakers are in line to possibly make a surprising splash in free agency.
