Kevin Durant has declined a meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers as he prepares to hit free agency on Friday, but that won’t stop the glamorous franchise from pursuing him.

According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, the Lakers feel their chances of meeting with Durant during the free agency moratorium are still high.

“I can't imagine Durant wouldn't talk to us,” the source said. “That would shock me.”

The Lakers have been linked to pursuing other players such as Harrison Barnes, DeMar DeRozan, and Hassan Whiteside, to name a few. These guys would help build up their roster after getting the #2 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

With over $60 million in cap space, they have the freedom to team up KD with whoever he wants.

“We want to pitch guys on combinations, as opposed to just one guy,” the source said. “We'll say to a guy, ‘Who do you want to play with? We've got the room to go get him.'”

While Durant says his decision will be a basketball one and that he wants to win, the Lakers will undoubtedly pitch the organization's history of winning, its lucrative media market, and the opportunity to build all of it around him.

Presently, Durant has meetings with six teams scheduled to take place in New York, starting July 1st when free agency begins.
