Amid all the bright new stars that have arrived in LA this summer, Malik Monk is looking to pave his own way to help the Los Angeles Lakers. Monk is one of the more low-key acquisitions the front office did this summer. After spending his first four seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, the former Kentucky standout is looking to add some depth to the star-studded Lakers roster.

“It will open everything up for me,” Monk said about playing alongside the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook (via silverscreenandroll.com). “A lot more easier shots, a lot more uncontested shots, a lot more drives where I can get downhill because LeBron, AD and Russ are going to make the floor more spaced out for all of us.”

Although he might need to earn his playing time given that the Lakers backcourt is quite stacked with the arrival of Westbrook as well as other newly acquired guards like Kendrick Nunn and Kent Bazemore, the opportunity for the 23-year-old to grow alongside future Hall of Famers would be nothing but huge for his young career.

“I just try to be the best I can in every little aspect of the game, and I think I bring a lot to the table here as well with all the greats here, man,” Monk added. “LeBron, AD, Russ, Carmelo (Anthony), Dwight (Howard), everybody man. Everybody. I can feed off them and I think I can learn a lot from them. So I bring excitement, just like Westbrook, to the game. Plus shooting.”

Monk is coming off his best year so far in the league last season where he averaged 11.7 points per game while shooting 40.1% from deep in 42 games for the Hornets.
