Markieff Morris provided a huge spark off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers in their Game 2 win over the Houston Rockets.

The veteran forward, who was signed by the Lakers after getting bought out by the Detroit Pistons, scored 16 points in 23 minutes and shot 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

While speaking to Lakers reporters about his big game, Morris admitted he was relieved to finally make a big impact for the team.

Via Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times:

“Me personally, I prepare for anything,” Markieff Morris said on a video conference call with reporters from the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.

“It’s about time I start making some shots. I haven’t made shots since I’ve been here, really. I’m playoff ready. Whenever coach (Frank Vogel) needs me, that’s what I’m going to do. I just made some shots today, played good defense and coach was rolling with me. Either way it go, I’m going to give my all out there every time I get on the court and be what I need to be for this team – tough, knock down shots.”

The Lakers are now tied with the Rockets at 1-1. Game 3 is Wednesday.

Morris averaged 5.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Lakers during the 2019-20 regular season after signing with the club. He shot 40.6 percent overall and 33.3 percent from the 3-point line.

Odds are Morris isn't going to shoot 75 percent from deep in every game for the Lakers moving forward against the Rockets. However, Morris' Game 2 outburst could be a stepping stone for the 31-year-old, and maybe he'll round into form now.
