One of the biggest decisions the Los Angeles Lakers need to make this offseason pertains to the future of Alex Caruso. The 27-year-old's current deal will expire at the end of this season, which means that the Lakers will need to offer him an extension if they want him to remain in LA.

When asked about his thoughts on potentially entering free agency, Caruso was refreshingly honest with his response:

“I’m a realistic human being. I understand different things happen in L.A. for certain reasons. I’m forever grateful for that, and we’ll see where everything lies,” Caruso said at his exit interview on Friday, via Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen & Roll. “But like I said, I’ve got to rank stuff, and that’s obviously not something I’ve thought about in depth 12 hours after the season ended. I’ll look more into that in July, but yeah, those are definitely things that L.A. takes into consideration maybe more so than other places.”

Caruso was non-committal about wanting to sign an extension with the Lakers, which at this point, is quite understandable. It remains unclear if Caruso remains part of the “core group” general manager Rob Pelinka has referred to, so it's also a possibility that LA lets Caruso walk away as a free agent this summer.

According to Caruso, he's setting all the contract talks aside for now as he looks forward to a much-needed summer vacation:

“There’s a lot of things that I will sit down and think about and plan out, including what my offseason looks like,” the Lakers guard said. “Things that I finally have a real chance to do now that I have a real offseason being a pro. I’m not scrapping for a job, wondering where I’m going to play. So that’s something I don’t think I can answer right now. Obviously there’s a bunch of different things that go into it.”

Caruso did admit, however, that playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis will weigh heavily in his decision:

“Anytime you play with those two, you have a realistic chance to win a championship. I know a lot of people around the league think they do,” Caruso said. “But it’s a realistic, attainable goal with those two guys on your team, so that’s always in the back of your mind.”

Following Thursday's embarrassing season-ending loss to the Suns in Game 6 of their first-round series, the Lakers are set to face what should be a very interesting offseason. Big decisions need to be made, and these will likely have a significant impact on the team both in the short and long term.
