The Los Angeles Lakers have been searching for that proverbial “third star” to slot alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Alex Caruso just offered the perfect take for who that guy is for the Lakers:

So much for needing a third star. It seems like they never really needed one, with the Lakers just one win away from capturing the 2020 NBA championship. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has made similar comments in the past, so Caruso seems to be echoing his coach here.

The Lakers' supporting cast stepped up big time in their 102-96 Game 4 win over the Miami Heat. LeBron James and Anthony Davis led the way with 28 points and 22 points, respectively.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope contributed in a massive way for Los Angeles on Tuesday, going for 15 points, five assists. and three 3-pointers. KCP scored eight of the Lakers' first 10 points and made a couple of crucial baskets to keep Miami at bay down the stretch.

The 6-foot-5 guard knocked down a huge corner triple with 2:58 remaining to give Los Angeles a five-point lead. He then followed that up with an aggressive drive to the hoop to extend their lead to seven with two minutes remaining in the game.

Aside from Caldwell-Pope, other guys such as Caruso himself, Rajon Rondo, Markieff Morris, and Kyle Kuzma also played well.

Rondo may have scored just two points, but he made some important hustle plays down the stretch that generated extra possessions for the Lakers. Caruso did his damage with his energy and disruption on the defensive end, while Kuzma and Morris knocked down a couple of triples for them throughout the game.

Obviously, the Lakers will need LeBron James and Anthony Davis to be at their best, especially as they attempt to close out a gutsy and determined Heat squad. Still, they will also need their “others” to step up if they want to capture banner No. 17.
