If it's up to Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Danny Duffy, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have to keep Alex Caruso in Tinseltown and in Purple & Gold threads, per Blake Harris.

Whatever it is Lakers fans see in Caruso, it's certainly earned their adoration of him. An unassuming guard with explosive athleticism and a decent feel for the game, Caruso has become an asset for the Lakers. In fact, among players with at least 20 minutes per game in the 2020-21 NBA season, Caruso was second — right behind LeBron James — with a 5.5 net rating.

But Lakers fans like Danny Duffy do not really need those fancy stats to appreciate Caruso, who has become a cult hero of sorts. It's probably because average people could identify with him the most. The LeBron James-es and the Anthony Davis-es of the NBA can come across as individuals who are not from this planet, unlike Caruso, who looks like someone you know from a vegan store.

Caruso is currently an unrestricted free agent, and with the Lakers acquiring Russell Westbrook, the salary cap situation of the team might not be able to accommodate a new contract for the former Texas A&M Aggies star.

If Caruso does indeed end up with a different team outside of LA, that would be a bummer for Duffy, as he just got in Hollywood after getting traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Dodgers late last month. The Lakers got Westbrook, though, as mentioned, so at least he got that.
