Los Angeles Lakers backup point guard Alex Caruso is feeling the love, with fans continuously voting for him for the 2020 NBA All-Star Game, which will take place next month in Chicago.

While Caruso is getting votes from fans that best Western Conference guards like Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns, he sees it as a “compliment” but doesn't want to take credit away from other players who are far more deserving of an All-Star nod.

Per The New York Times' Marc Stein's newsletter:

“But in reality, I never want to take any credit away from guys that are truly deserving of being All-Stars that have had great seasons. The fan vote part of it is just, I guess, a compliment to how hard I’ve worked to get here.”

The votes ultimately have no bearing since Caruso's votes are not  substantial enough and it only has a partial effect on how the starters are decided. Caruso as a backup guard has impressed fans and spectators, but he isn't the star-quality talent of a LeBron James or Anthony Davis—the Lakers' two stars and among the top vote-getters. James and Davis will more than likely represent the purple and gold in Chicago (Davis' hometown) with Caruso staying home.

The point guard could decide to participate in an event over the All-Star Weekend, however—something like the 3-point contest or slam dunk contest. It's unlikely he tries out in the latter, though, considering his Lakers teammate center Dwight Howard is making his much-publicized comeback in the event after winning in 2008, losing the next year to New York Knicks diminutive point guard Nate Robinson.
