LOS ANGELES – Alex Caruso has quickly become one of the most beloved players on the Los Angeles Lakers. The former G-League journeyman has gone from a player that didn't know if he'd ever have a career in the NBA to a household name playing an important role on a championship-caliber team.

Along with earning his way into the Lakers rotation after paying his dues in the G-League, Caruso is now a fan favorite in Los Angeles. Lakers fans adore Caruso and high-fly act, gritty play, and no-fear mentality when driving to the basket. Artist Gustavo Zermeño Jr. went as far as to paint a mural of the Lakers guard dunking on the likes of Jamal Murray, James Harden, Devin Booker, Kawhi Leonard, and Luka Doncic.

After the Lakers won their 12th game of the season on Tuesday night at the Staples Center taking down the Oklahoma City Thunder, Caruso talked about his cult following and what he thought of the mural.

“I thought it was fake, to be honest when I first saw it before the game,” Caruso said of his mural. “It just kind of contributes to the cult following that we've been joking about for the last six months.

“Incredible artwork. I messaged the guy and told him I appreciate it, and I'm probably going to try to go there tomorrow and take a picture with him. Check it out.”

Caruso also got a kick out of the players chosen to be dunked on by him in the mural. He admits that none of the stars in the mural would be willing to go up for the block against him.

“He chose like the best player on all the best teams in the West,” Caruso said. “None of those guys are ever going to block the shot. What you going to do?”
