In typical sports vernacular, “GOAT” stands for Greatest Of All Time. Despite being just a role player in the league, Los Angeles Laker fan-favorite Alex Caruso has earned this title from fans and his teammates.

And while the third-year Lakers point guard out of Texas A&M certainly isn't the greatest basketball player of all time, Caruso does have strong opinions when it comes to the term.

“It’s funny,” Alex Caruso said, per Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times. “Every time it comes up, it’s funny. It has kind of lost its pop to me because everyone on the team says it now, but when it first started happening it was funny and it was a good laugh. Everyone still enjoys it and they’re still saying it.”

Caruso has become a fan-favorite pretty much across the entire league due to his goofy appearance, surprising athleticism and consistent hustle plays. Prior to the season being postponed due to COVID-19, Caruso was averaging 5.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for the Lakers while shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from the 3-point line.

“The outside world might be taking it in basketball terms but I think when my teammates say it, they’re just speaking to the kind of teammate I am and the kind of guy I am. I’m just another one of the guys who happens to be really good at basketball and don’t look like I should be,” Caruso added.

While Caruso may not put up much when looking at the box score, the 26-year-old guard is certainly a strong presence in the locker room and seems to have great chemistry with the rest of his Lakers teammates.
