Former Philadelphia 76ers superstar Allen Iverson has joined other NBA personalities such as Pau Gasol and Phil Jackson in congratulating Kobe Bryant on his upcoming jersey retirement. Iverson sent out a short but sweet tweet and included the hashtag “Str8SerialKilla” in reference to Bryant.

Iverson and Bryant share some significant career connections which will forever link them together. Iverson was the top overall pick in the legendary 1996 NBA draft, 12 spots ahead of Bryant. Iverson went to the went to the Philadelphia 76ers, Bryant’s hometown team. Iverson also went on to win the Rookie of the Year award that season.

The two went on to become two of the NBA’s biggest stars during the early 2000s as they shepherded the league through the post-Michael Jordan era.

Iverson and Bryant then met in the 2001 NBA Finals, which was Iverson’s only trip to the Finals in his career. However, Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers would come out on top over Iverson's Sixers in five games to seal the second of their three consecutive titles in the early 2000s.

Iverson has also had the honor of having his jersey retired when the Sixers raised his famous No. 3 to the rafters in 2014.
