Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis went down hard in the closing seconds of the first quarter of Game 5 against the Miami Heat.

The entire Lakers nation collectively held their breaths, as AD writhed in pain after landing awkwardly on his right ankle during a tussle for a rebound. It was a scary sight for the Purple and Gold, as play was stopped with 48.4 ticks remaining in the first quarter.

Davis stayed on the floor for several minutes before being helped off to the bench. The 6-foot-10 forward opted not to go to the locker room — which is a good sign for LA.

According to the latest update by Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet, Anthony Davis re-aggravated the right heel contusion that has kept him on the injury report over the past games in the Finals.

Fortunately, his injury doesn’t seem to be serious, as he is available to return.

It would have been disastrous for the Lakers had AD suffered a serious injury that would rule him out of the game. After all, they are trying to close out the Finals and bring the 17th banner in franchise history.

Davis has been the Lakers’ defensive anchor throughout the playoffs, and more importantly throughout the Finals. In their four games against the Heat prior to Friday’s contest, he was averaging 25.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 blocks.
