The Los Angeles Lakers didn't have Anthony Davis against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night due to a calf injury, but the superstar big man is set to return Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

As for LeBron James and his nagging ankle injury, his status is still to be determined as Monday's tip-off approaches.

Davis initially suffered the injury against the Los Angeles Clippers to open the season. While he played on Christmas Day in a win over the Dallas Mavericks, the injury flared up again and forced him to miss Sunday's demolition of Minnesota.

Like Davis, James played through his injury on Christmas Day after tweaking his ankle in the Lakers' first game of the season. LeBron suited up for Sunday's game against the Timberwolves, but he tweaked his ankle again and didn't play a normal workload, though part of that was also due to the nature of the blowout.

Both Davis and James have been spectacular so far in 2020-21 despite such a short turnaround from last season. The Lakers and Miami Heat had the shortest time to prepare for the 2020-21 season after going all the way to the 2020 NBA Finals.

After dropping their season opener to the Clippers, the Lakers have won their last two games against the Mavericks and Timberwolves. Both Davis and James have been stellar on the court, but the Lakers' depth has also been pivotal to their early success. This is a loaded roster, and it's easy to see why they're the championship favorite.

Meanwhile, the Blazers are 1-1 on the season after a thrilling double-overtime victory against the Houston Rockets over the weekend. Portland will be looking for a bit of revenge after losing to the Lakers in five first-round games in the Disney bubble.
