The Los Angeles Lakers honored Kobe Bryant's daughter Gigi with Mambacita gear before their game on Sunday. It would have been Gianna Bryant's 15th birthday on Saturday. Her mom, Vanessa Bryant, decided to honor her by releasing the Mambacita apparel for the special occasion. Anthony Davis and other Lakers joined in this tribute by wearing the apparel before the game.

In a year with a lot of loss in 2020, the helicopter crash in January was a tragedy. The crash killed nine people including Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna. It's already been 15 months since the crash and it is still hard to think about for Lakers fans and everyone else in the NBA.

Gianna Bryant was motivated like her father and was on her way to the WNBA. The Lakers have been honoring both of them since the accident including winning a championship for them.

Lakers superstar LeBron James said this about honoring Kobe back in September: “At the end of the day, we just hope we make him and his family proud.”

Kobe and Gianna's legacy is something that will continue to live on. Lakers fans will always remember everything Kobe did for them and also how great of a father he was. Gianna strived to carry on Kobe's legacy and was well on her way to doing that.

LeBron James had a very emotional speech in the Lakers' first game back after the tragedy last season.

He closed his speech by saying, “In the words of Kobe Bryant, ‘Mamba Out,' but in the words of us, not forgotten — live on brother.”

Kobe and Gianna may be gone, but their legacy will live on forever. The 2020 playoffs provided a poignant backdrop to the grief LeBron, Anthony Davis, and the rest of the Laker family were still processing. That remembrance continues into 2021 and the upcoming playoffs.
