LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Lakers secured their 40th win of the 2019-20 NBA season on Monday night at Staples Center, with LeBron James and company making easy work of Devin Booker's Phoenix Suns, 125-100.

Although Anthony Davis and James put their stamp on the game, it was Rajon Rondo's night to shine as he had a solid performance off the bench with a season-high 23 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds. The veteran point guard was a force from beyond the arc, hitting four out of his five attempts.

Davis talked about his teammate's performance against the game and focused on Rondo's aggressiveness as the main reason for his success against the Suns.

“He was aggressive,” Davis said of Rondo. “He was aggressive enough to take the shots tonight. 4-for-5 from 3. Had a big game. The more he can be aggressive like that. The more he'll help us.”

After the NBA trade deadline passed without the Lakers making a move, the speculation ran rampant about what the team would do. All signs pointed to Darren Collison being their top target, but the veteran guard decided to stay retired rather than joining one of the two teams in Los Angeles.

Kyle Kuzma also spoke about Rondo's performance against the game.

“Controlled the game,” Kuzma said of Rondo. “Made things easy. Obviously he's a great passer. He got to the rim. Made timely 3s. He had a great game.”

All the speculation about Collison potentially joining the team shed doubt on Rondo's future in Los Angeles or at least how many minutes he'd play for the rest of the season. This performance was a bit of a statement in terms of what he can still do on the floor, but the team may still pursue another ball handler in the backcourt who can stretch the floor.
