Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis has already established himself as one of the best big men in the league. Averaging 22.3 points a game along with 8.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, the versatile center out of Kentucky still aspires to be even better.

Davis will not settle on just being great. He continues to look for ways to improve his game and be a better teammate. For this season, Davis wanted to improve on his passing. According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Davis looks to teammates LeBron James and Marc Gasol to help develop this particular aspect of his game:

“I just ask them questions,” Davis told The Athletic. “Some of the plays that those two guys make, it’s unbelievable for me. It’s unreal. Especially for Marc because he’s a bigger guy. There’s a handful of bigs that can actually make those passes: him, (Nikola) Jokic, Draymond (Green).”

It's not an easy task for a big man to make a read while getting swarmed on the block by defenders. Wherever Davis gets the ball on the court, he will attract defenders his way, making it that much more important for him to make the necessary pass to an open teammate. Gasol believes that understanding where one is on the court and anticipating how the defense will react is key, via Buha:

“It’s more about reads and spacing than anything,” Gasol said. “At the end of the day, he has to make the read and see what the defense is trying to bait him into and, at the same time, has to stay aggressive. It’s a fine line, and he has to dictate what’s going to happen and kind of bait the defense to what he wants to do.”

The Lakers are bound to be a more terrifying bunch once Anthony Davis starts showing significant progress in his goal to become a better-passing big man — just like Nikola Jokic.
