It seems like for Stephen A. Smith, Anthony Davis isn't doing enough for the LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Smith went off on the Lakers center on First Take, criticizing Davis on his conditioning during the off-season. (via First Take on Twitter)

“How could you have a teammate like LeBron, that just delivered you your first title ever… and I’m not insulting Anthony Davis, I’m asking a question because it’s something I would ask him to his face… If you didn’t do all that you could physically to have yourself in peak condition, how could you allow that to happen to you when you know you’re playing with a champion?” Smith asked on Thursday’s episode of First Take. “… How could you have that slippage? So it’s great that Russell Westbrook is [in Los Angeles].”

Smith's comments on Davis and James are in reference to Russell Westbrook's response to reporters regarding his relationship with Davis during the Lakers media availability. Smith keyed in on this particular part of Westbrook's quote:

“My job is to make sure to continue pushing him each day, each practice, each game, so he can be at the top of his game each and every night. He’s been in this league a long time, so he understands how to play the game. He knows when he needs to turn it up”

It seems like Stephen A. Smith has taken Westbrook's comments completely out of context here. The new Lakers guard wasn't taking a shot at Anthony Davis' conditioning, far from it actually. Westbrook was simply hyping up Davis and talking about how they'll help each other. However, whether intentionally or not, it seems like Smith has taken this quote as if it was a jab at Davis.

Davis suited up for the Lakers in their first pre-season tilt against the Brooklyn Nets, playing minimal minutes. Hopefully, Smith's words don't get to AD's head and distract him from their goal of winning the championship again.
