Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and the Los Angeles Lakers host the Chicago Bulls on Monday, which means Alex Caruso will make his bittersweet return to Staples Center.

Of course, this time, Caruso will be wearing red instead of gold — a sight Lakers fans still haven't gotten over. IRL, it will be even harder to process.

After all, the Lakers oddly and insultingly low-balled Caruso — whom they developed from an undrafted free agent into an All-NBA caliber defender and cult hero — for luxury tax reasons over the summer. Chicago, smartly, offered the 28-year-old a four-year, $37 million deal.

So far this season, the new-look Bulls are 8-4. Caruso is averaging 3.3 steals per 36 minutes and instigating nightly highlights.

Davis may miss playing alongside Caruso, who started the clinching Game 6 of the 2020 NBA Finals just over a year ago. On Monday, though, he's going to be excited to face off against the “GOAT.”

After Davis' dominant performance in the Lakers' 114-106 home win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, he was asked about the matchup against Caruso and his hometown team.

“Who? I don’t know that guy,” Davis joked at first, upon hearing Caruso's name.

“Nah, it’s gonna be fun playing against AC again,” he continued. “All the stuff he brought to our team to win a championship and to our team last year. He was a big part of what we did here. Probably be a little bit more emotional for him than me, just cause he's back here in L.A. It's usually more emotional when I'm back in Chicago. But anytime I get a chance to play the Bulls, it's always fun to go against your hometown team. It's gonna be fun and exciting to play against AC. We're gonna try to get that win against him.”

That's going to be one heck of a tribute video.
