Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis recently went on an AMA interview on Reddit and resulted in it in quite a few revelations from the the28-year-old. One of the most interesting bits from the interview was Davis' “welcome to the NBA” moment, which apparently, centered around two-time All-Star big man David West.

According to Davis, he knew that the “league was for real” when he ended up being dominated by West, then with the Indiana Pacers, as a rookie (h/t Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen and Roll):

Davis shared the frustration about being unable to stop West on the defensive end. According to the Lakers star, West literally went back to the same low-post move repeatedly. Davis just couldn't do anything to prevent West from scoring, which as a rookie, was terribly frustrating for him.

The game Davis was talking about went down a few days before Christmas during his debut season. On December 22, 2012, Davis and his New Orleans Hornets were hosting David West and the Pacers. Davis proved no match to West, who dropped 25 points on him on 11-of-20 shooting. For his part, Davis struggled on both ends of the floor, finishing with just 10 points on 5-of-14 shooting.

AD clearly took that disappointing moment to heart and has since carried that burden. He used it as motivation to get better, which did not take long for him during his rookie season. He has since emerged as one of the top big men in the NBA today and is now gunning for his second consecutive title with the Lakers. At this point in his career, it's Davis who is now dominating everybody else in the league.
