Los Angeles Lakers star Brandon Ingram always strives to stay humble on and off the basketball court, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have that ruthless determination to beat his opponents.

In a column written by Mirin Fader of Bleacher Report, Ingram explains how he balances humility with his innate killer instinct.

“The only voice that's steady going through my head is mine,” Ingram says. “Like, You gotta do this right. Every day I try to be superhuman in whatever I do.

“I feel ready now.”

Like it's your time?

“I feel like it is,” he says. “And for me to say that right now, like, I feel arrogant. But that's why I would never say it. I stay humble. But in the back of my head, I think what keeps me going is, I know that I'm going to kill you.”

Entering his third season, Ingram is still a 21-year-old kid trying to prove himself in the big league. He made strides last season, posting impressive all-around numbers for the Lakers while being the team's top scorer and playmaker. Ingram believes that he could be an All-Star this year as the Lakers look for him to be the team's focal point behind superstar LeBron James.

Ingram could do almost anything. His long frame combined with his mobility lets him defend and cut passing lanes. On offense, he can tower over shorter small forwards and create shots for himself or make plays for his teammates.

Yet, you would seldom see Ingram talk trash or let out a loud roar after making a shot. Opposing teams can't be fooled, though. Behind that laid-back personality is a young man whose only purpose in putting on that jersey is to subdue his opponents and win.
