Los Angeles Lakers young star Brandon Ingram is giving back to the community he grew up in, as he stopped by Kinston, North Carolina to donate school supplies to the kids in his hometown.

Despite being just 20-years-old, it seems as though Ingram is well aware of the importance his community played in his rise to the NBA, discussing with WNTC9 reporter Courtney Allen about his mindset to give back to his hometown.

“It’s just like something that came out of my heart, something I wanted to do for my community, the less fortunate, people that don’t have, or even people that do, a chance to give back,” Ingram said.

Ingram joins the lost list of NBA players who spent this off-season giving back communities across American and around the world. To his credit, the six-foot-nine forward has not forgotten his roots, and partnered up with multiple retails outlets to provide the children with school supplies and back packs during his visit.

Ingram’s grand gesture was so well respected, that the Mayor of Kinston took time out of his day to speak about the contribution.

“The chance for these kids to see a real life superstar, but also know that he came from their backyard, that is so important for these kids seeing Brandon and his likeness here,” Kinston mayor BJ Murphy said.

Ingram has grown his reputation with each passing season, as the Duke product continues to display the talent that justifies his second selection in the 2016 NBA draft. Although his status continues to grow, he remains level-headed, and hopes he can be an example for others to encourage them to give back one day as well.

“Just to see these kids walk through this gym, and fill the shoes that I’ve been in, I think it’s beautiful and that they have a chance to do something even better.”

Ingram can be proud of the example he has set, and hopefully he can continue to be an inspiration moving forward for the kids in his hometown and around the world.
