The Los Angeles Lakers won't have Brandon Ingram on their upcoming road trip. The Lakers will play a back-to-back against the San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies, but Ingram will not play due to the sprained left ankle he suffered in Wednesday night's win over the Spurs:

Brandon Ingram will undergo a precautionary MRI to determine the extent of the injury.

Ingram is one of the Lakers' bright young players, but he has had an up-and-down season thus far. A suspension stemming from a fight with Chris Paul and the Houston Rockets slowed Ingram down early. Now his ankle injury is slowing him down once again.

Despite Ingram's slow start to the season, the Lakers are 15-9 and sit in the thick of the playoff hunt. The Western Conference is extremely crowded this year, but the Lakers are holding their own. There are 14 teams in the West with a puncher's chance at making the playoffs. That's unheard of and means there won't be any breaks for the Lakers on the schedule.

Hopefully, there is no long-term damage to Ingram so he can return to the court as quickly as possible. The Lakers need him to develop into a star if they have any hopes of doing damage in the playoffs.

Brandon Ingram is averaging 15.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 30.8 minutes per game. The 21-year-old is shooting 47.0 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from 3-point range.
