The Los Angeles Lakers are a young team that really likes to get up and down the court. According to StatMuse, they have the fastest pace in the league during the 2017-18 NBA season, but the reason is really surprising considering they have Lonzo Ball.

“The Lakers have played the fastest pace in the NBA this season. What's surprising is that they play the fastest when Brook Lopez is on the floor—Lopez is 2nd in individual pace in the whole league, trailing only Steph Curry.”

The pace is how many possessions a team uses per game. The Lakers have a pace of 103, which is half a possession more than Golden State who has a pace of 102.5. In comparison, the Grizzlies have the slowest pace in the NBA only have 96.2 possessions per game.

Lopez is one of the oldest players on the Lakers, but yet he is one of the guys that is really pushing the pace for the team.

For the Lakers and Lopez though, that pace hasn't turn into many wins. They currently sit with a 23-34 record which puts them in 11th place in the Western Conference standings, and eight games out of a playoff spot.

There have been rumors about if the Lakers will keep Lopez through the end of the season, or if they will buy him out. According to Romona Shelburne, Lopez would like to stay:

As I said a little while ago on the Jump, source tells me that Brook Lopez wants to stay with the Lakers the rest of the year. There's still time for that to change, but if it holds, teams hoping he'd be available after a buyout will be disappointed.

If he were to reach a buyout agreement with Los Angeles, though, there is no doubt that the Lakers pace of play would suffer. He does a good job of getting rebounds, and getting the ball into one of the guards hands quick.

If the team could only do more with the extra possessions they have, maybe they would be in the playoff hunt.
