With the highly-anticipated film Space Jam 2, starring Los Angels Lakers star LeBron James, finally being given a 2021 initial release date, the excitement for the sequel to what is widely regarded as one of the most iconic basketball movie franchises of all time continues to build up. Recently, retired NBA great Charles Oakley spoke with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Heavy, and expressed his desire to take part in the epic project.

“I would love to do it,” Oakley admitted.

Oakley made a brief cameo in the original Space Jam movie which hit theaters in 1996. The 55-year-old could not help but relive his experience on the set over a decade ago and wished that he could have the same experience again.

“I love the part with Mike, it was just great,” he explained. “I would love to be around him for a week or two.

“Being in Space Jam 1 and seeing how things went, you would never know what would happen while you were doing Space Jam. We got to play basketball everyday on the court, and it was so much fun.”

The former Knicks legend also shared his thoughts on James agreeing to step into the shoes of the great Michael Jordan by doing the sequel.

“I’m glad he was tough enough to do it,” Oakley said. “I don’t know why he would do something Mike did, but you gotta do what make you go.”

There is no official word yet on which NBA stars will be starring alongside James for Space Jam 2. However, it would be pretty awesome if Oakley were to make an appearance, as it would present a welcome touch of nostalgia for the viewers.
