The Los Angeles Lakers and forward Corey Brewer have agreed to a buyout, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports.

A buyout must be completed with the Lakers by Thursday, March 1 to make Brewer eligible to play in the playoffs this season with another team.

L.A. is likely to try and use the open roster spot on a young talent, with the season already by the wayside, currently 6.5 games back of the L.A. Clippers for the eighth and last spot in the Western Conference playoffs, despite a recent three-game win streak against the bottom dwellers of the league.

Brewer had played a very limited role in his combined one season (2016-17—2017-18) with the team, only mustering 12.9 minutes of playing time under head coach Luke Walton.

Assuming negotiations get done within the next few hours, the veteran defender will be able to become a free agent and hope to land with a contender, now in his 11th season in the league.

Several contenders like the Houston Rockets and the Boston Celtics have been aggressive early on with the buyout market, which would mean a team looking to solidify itself defensively could look Brewer's way, who is likely to sign the veteran's minimum for his services for the remainder of the season.
