23-year-old swingman and Las Vegas Summer League rostered player for the Los Angeles Lakers Dakota Mathias is getting high praise for his shooting ability.

Mathias spent four collegiate seasons playing at Purdue University, averaging 41.9% from three-point range. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard would go undrafted in 2018 and opted to play overseas with Spanish professional club Divina Seguros Joventut. Mathias signed a deal to play on the Lakers' Summer League squad in Las Vegas.

ESPN college basketball analyst Seth Greenberg, doing color commentary for the Lakers-Bulls Summer League matchup, compared Mathias to long-time NBA veteran Kyle Korver. Greenberg made note of the two swingmen's quick releases.

Mathias averaged 8.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game with Divina Seguros Joventut in 12 total contests last season, shooting 41.8% from the field and 37.3% from three.

Before that, Mathias was invited to the Vegas Summer League by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018, appearing in six games and averaging 4.5 points a game.

Korver, meanwhile, was recently traded twice during the offseason, first to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Mike Conley deal, and then to the Phoenix Suns for Josh Jackson and De'Anthony Melton. The Suns could very well waive Korver, a 16-year NBA veteran shooting guard and small forward.

Korver, now 38, earned one All-Star Game invite in 2015. He's averaged 9.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game in 1,174 career appearances, shooting 44.3% from the floor, 42.9% from three, and 87.8% from the free throw line.
