As reported recently, free agent shooting guard JR Smith will be joining the Los Angeles Lakers for the rest of the season.

Smith is set to fill the void left by swingman Avery Bradley, who opted to sit out the bubble games in Orlando. For what it's worth, Smith has extensive experience playing alongside superstar forward LeBron James during their time with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With the signing set to be official soon, Lakers guard Danny Green chimed in on the conversation.

Green very recently joined ClutchPoints' Battle for LA Podcast with Tomer Azarly and Ryan Ward to talk about potentially adding Smith to the championship hopeful Lakers.

“I love Swish man, I love his game. He’s a great guy. Since high school, I’ve been competing against him. He deserves an opportunity just like Melo, just like Jamal Crawford, all those guys deserve an opportunity. Professionally been in this league for a long time, I have seen him, we from the same area, he’s from the northeast, I’ve seen him workout here and there. He’s ready, he looks like he’s been ready for this call for a minute. We’ll see how it goes, it’s above my pay grade. I don’t make those decisions. But if he does get the opportunity, whether it’s with us or with another team. He’ll be a great addition to wherever he goes.”

Of course, while J.R. Smith's time alongside James in Cleveland ultimately produced one of the most memorable memes to date, such a stint was also highlighted by a NBA title in 2015-16.

In all, Smith has played 15 NBA seasons, with the Lakers about to become his fifth team in his career.

The Lakers are one of the favorites to win the NBA title this 2020. However, it remains to be seen how Bradley's absence and Smith's arrival will impact their title chances when they resume the 2019-20 campaign.
