Darren Collison is expected to eventually sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

Collison, who abruptly retired this past summer, has been mulling a comeback and has been rumored to prefer either the Lakers or the Los Angeles Clippers to stay close to home in California.

However, the Clippers acquired fellow point guard Isaiah Thomas ahead of the trade deadline on Thursday, essentially narrowing Collison's choice to the Lakers.

Collison played in 78 games for the Indiana Pacers last season, averaging 11.2 points, six assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals over 28.2 minutes per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor, 40.7 percent from three-point range and 83.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The 32-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at UCLA, was originally selected by the New Orleans Hornets in the first round (21st pick overall) of the 2009 NBA Draft.

He spent one season with New Orleans before being traded to the Pacers for his first stint in Indiana, where he played two seasons.

Since then, Collison has played for the Dallas Mavericks, Clippers and Sacramento Kings before returning to Indy for his second go-around with the Pacers during the summer of 2017.

While he is far from an All-Star caliber player, Collison has been incredibly consistent throughout his career, boasting lifetime averages of 12.5 points, five assists, 2.7 boards and 1.2 steals across 29.4 minutes a night while making 47.1 percent of his field-goal attempts, 39.4 percent of his long-distance tries and 85.3 percent of his foul shots.

The Lakers are 38-11 and are in first place in the Western Conference.
