It looks like Los Angeles Lakers icon Derek Fisher has his eyes on the NBA after parting ways with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks.

On Tuesday, the Sparks announced that they have relieved Fisher of his head coaching and general manager duties for the remainder of the 2022 season. The former Lakers champion joined the Sparks in 2018 as head coach and took over as general manager in 2020.

Fisher had a 54-46 record with the Sparks during his tenure. Unfortunately, the 2022 campaign had been a bit of a struggle for him and the Sparks, as they started off 5-7 despite bringing in Liz Cambage.

In a statement on Twitter, Fisher thanked the Sparks for the opportunity they have given him. It is worth mentioning, though, that he also shared his plans to focus on “endeavors” in the NBA and other private opportunities.

“As I move forward I will shift my focus and love for the game into pursuing opportunities in the NBA and other private endeavors,” Fisher wrote.

Does this mean Derek Fisher is going back to the NBA? By the looks of it, he certainly seems interested.

It remains to be seen if any team will be interested in hiring him as a coach or even as an assistant. To recall, he did coach the New York Knicks from 2014 to 2016, albeit with little success.

For now, Lakers and NBA fans in general will just have to wait and see what Fish ends up doing.
